So what has been weighing you down?

Whether it be greasy fatty food- or stress. A lot can hold us back from having our ultimate body. Meaning the one were supposed to have. I don't mean being a rail- that might not be your body frame. First off we need to realize we all have different body types, and we need to embrace our own. Focus on the things we do have. And realize we are very special in our very own way!

No matter how old or young you are. Do not let that be an excuse. As long as you have an open mind and wiliness to change, then you can lose weight. I think one of the most important things to realize is that you have to BELIEVE. I'm serious. If you don't believe in the fact that it is possible for you to transform. Then no matter what you do- you will not ever change. Because you don't believe you can. That means give up the negatives. You're wrong if you think you can't change. WAY wrong. I believe in you. I know you can. But you really got to change the way your living.
Refuse to settle. Refuse to accept this. and change! Things can be different. No matter where you are in your life- you can change the way your living.
-And by the way let me add here that if you are interested in losing weight, your not alone, this information I am giving to you- I am also taking! I want to lose a few pounds, but in no way do I want to count calories, or go low carb everything, etc. No diets here. This is a way of changing your thinking and lose weight in the process.
I'm not sure of anyones situations. But let me point out some things -

*Don't eat when your not hungry.
I don't care if it is dinner time. Are you actually hungry? If your not- then don't eat. It's ok! Only eat when you are actually hungry and stop eating when you truly are full! I know sometimes when were eating something, ooooh it's sooooo good. Yes. But maybe half way through- your good. You don't need anymore. But you still keep eating it cause it tastes so good. Box it up! It's not going anywhere! That could be your dinner for later if you kept it safe and sound in the fridge! Don't over indulge. Eat when your hungry, stop when your full.

*Eat HEALTHY FOODS!
And nothing else. If that sounds like a death sentence to you- then I'm sorry. But look here, eating potato chips will get you NOWHERE! They are not good for you or your weight loss. Because certain foods keep you hungrier. Their empty calories. Their stupid! They do not deserve to be in your beautiful clean body. You won't be as puffy. You'll be clear and feel focused and good. I love food- I make super delicious foods, and it's all 'healthy'. So seriously- it's not a big deal. Just go back to the basics. Fruits, Veggies, Nuts, Legumes, & Lean protein (if you eat meat.) And sometimes red wine & or dark chocolate, over 70% cacao. (Beer is ok as well in moderation.) Just think naturally.
If your vegan or vegetarian, eating all those fake soy products are not good for your body either. It's good to eat 'clean' foods to remove the toxins from our bodies and keep it clean. Yes, I do eat tofu and gardein products sometimes but it's a treat, and not that often. I also don't eat fake vegan cheeze much. I'd much rather make my cashew cheeze from scratch. Eat as less oils as you can as well. And use as little sugar as possible! Keep it clean!

*Excercise.
No matter what it is you do, get moving. I walk for 3 miles about every day. And it's just walking! I am not an exercise feen. I don't care to have ripped arms. I just know how important it is for our hearts and our bodies to stay active. For energy and mood as well. It helps I promise. I notice if I haven't worked out for a week, I am more negative and not energetic. Thats not ok! Everything changes when I exercise! Much more happier :)

So now that I've shared my most important things to stick with through out you day. let the questions and comments begin! I'd love for us to keep us all accountable. If you'd like to comment and let me know through facebook or here, when you've exercised- what healthy recipe you made, etc. Please do! I'd love to hear it! If you have any questions or concerns please ask me! Will be posting a weekly weigh in every wednesday! So next wed. be ready to weigh in on how your past week went! I wish you the best! Get moving!

What’s weighing me down? It’s not so much a particular food or drink, but more the time of day: EVENINGS!

Some background: I’m a relatively lean 147.2 (and I do get to the decimals because I’m a numbers person) in a 5’6” frame. Ideally, I’m aiming for anything at or below 140, provided it’s in line with my training regimen (currently, training for the Gladiator race in September and the Spartan Sprint in December).

3 years ago, I peaked at about 175 due to just not caring anymore about my well-being because of a combination of unhappiness at work, home and self. Since then, improvements I’ve made have been a better work life balance, 95% vegan (with the exception of some fish dishes) and an increase to my workout routine. Additionally, no sodas, no candy and no caffeine (unless in the form of tea).

Enough background: EVENINGS! For most of the day, I’m good because of my routine. Breakfast: oatmeal (PLAIN!) or a smoothy (banana, kiwi, spinach, parsley or some other combination). Snacks: orange, apple, banana, carrots, celery. Lunch: basic salad (KALE, spinach, w/tomatoes, olive oil and balsamic). Dinner: varies, could be a combination of salad, quinoa/couscous with grilled veggies and some soup (kale and veg broth w/green beans is ideal). And, of course, plenty of water throughout the day.

The problem? As the evening wears on, while I’m helping my 7 year old w/homework and putting my 3 year old to bed, I end up snacking. 50% of the time, I’m okay (I’m snacking on a variety of nuts, beans or snackable veggies). The other 50%, well, I’m less proud of (toast, cookies, brownies, and, ugh, chips). My mind just thinks I need it to keep energized for my kids throughout the evening. Generally, I’m good, but I notice it gets tough when I’m uber tired.

Help? I know, first off, I need to keep those “bad” snacks at bay by just not buying them (I mainly buy them for our babysitter). But other times, it just feels like I need that “fix” to maintain my energy. Thoughts, suggestions or recommendations?

M.Pak- amazing well done on your weight loss!
May I suggest some lean protein in your lunctime meal so that you are not so tired by the time your evening meal comes around? It sounds like maybe your body is processing the dinner super fast as it hasn't got much to go on at that point... just a thought?
Good Luck :)

Helllloooooooooooooooooo M. Pak! First of all, thanks so much for following my facebook page- I'm hoping I help with some recipes sometimes. Why I feel I have no right to tell you anything, cause I do not have kids. I can imagine the absolute different lifestyle. So I understand that some of these tips, might not be possible? But justttt in case :)

Your right though- yes. Get that stuff out of your house, if anything. Pop chips are really good for a light snack. But to me, there something to crunch on sure. but not enough- of anything to hold you over, if your truly hungry? but like I said before- are you sure your truly hungry? I'm sure being around your kids who are always energetic, could make you anxious at night- and maybe from that anxiety you want to eat. Drink water- before you eat anything, when the first 'hunger' hits, make sure your not dehydrated! I'd say for myself, I'm an anxious person. I drink 1 coffee a day only- and try to not eat dark chocolate after like 5, cause even that makes me anxious. I'd say hyper- but I'm not. It's a different kind of energy- one that keeps me up and awake and wants me to just eat- eat eat! or drink for that matter. I've started truly checking in with myself. Really closing my eyes and being quiet for a second and asking myself- am I really hungry, breatheeee. I also take holy basil- when this happens. It's a very natural herb from other countries, also known as Tulsi tea- which is the same thing, 'holy basil' and helps me relax. I have both. You should def. try it - if thats even the case! It says on there the benefits are just to have a healthy response to stress.

and yes, I agree with Lauren. I'm guessing from what you stated as your diet- your a vegan? which is awesome! I am most of the time, just the occasional cheese here and there ;) BUT anywho. I make sure that I have some sort of black beans, protein powder in smoothies or almond butter, etc. Sure it's totally fine to eat veggies and fruits, without protein! I know there is protein in dark leafy greens. But from my own experience, it does not keep me full for a long enough period of time if there is no nut or legume in my dish. I work for 8 hours sometimes and cannot take but a 30 min break at the beginning of my shift :/ so i've learned what works- i eat before i go, and then make a smoothie with vegan protein powder or almond butter in it. and if you really need something at the end of the night- i'd just try to keep it at fruits, and nuts. maybe an apple with almond butter, or carrots and hummus. you get that crunch which is always good! but drink tea or water- first.... :)
